Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has weighed in on Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, whose future at Stamford Bridge is under scrutiny amid transfer speculation linking him to Old Trafford.
Jackson’s situation has become uncertain following Chelsea’s summer acquisitions of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. The arrival of Pedro, who made an immediate impression, has placed Jackson under real pressure for the first time since joining the Blues.
The 24-year-old endured a difficult FIFA Club World Cup campaign, picking up more red cards than goals and failing to feature in the final. Once Chelsea’s first-choice striker heading into the tournament, he ended it as the third option behind Pedro and Delap.
With growing uncertainty over his role, clubs across Europe are monitoring Jackson’s status. AC Milan have shown interest, though a deal is seen as financially unfeasible for the Serie A side. Meanwhile, Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Manchester United have also been linked.
Reports suggest United have held discussions with the striker’s representatives, though no formal bid has been submitted.
Speaking on Rio Presents, Ferdinand said:
“You can see why his name is on Manchester United’s transfer list. His stats, when compared with any player entering their third season at Chelsea—whether it’s Drogba or anyone else—are right up there.
“He’s really good. In fact, he’s a pain for anyone. I’d say he’s in the top three or four most difficult strikers for centre-backs to face last season. I don’t think Jackson is an easy job for anyone.”
With Chelsea looking to reshape their attacking line, and interest in Jackson mounting, the Senegal international could be at the centre of one of the summer’s big transfer moves.
