Alan Shearer: Chelsea Will Be in the Title Race Next Season
Former England captain Alan Shearer believes Chelsea are poised to mount a serious title challenge next season following their impressive triumph in the FIFA Club World Cup. The victory, combined with strategic signings and strong performances under head coach Enzo Maresca, has convinced Shearer that the Blues are back among the Premier League elite.
“I think it would take a very, very brave person to say that Chelsea will not be in the title race next year,” Shearer said. “Given what they have achieved this season, their recent Club World Cup win, the players they have signed and the players they are going to sign, I think you have to accept that they will be in the title race.”

Chelsea’s commanding performance in the global competition has been widely praised, and Shearer was particularly impressed by Maresca’s tactical approach in the final, especially against a high-quality Paris Saint-Germain side.
“It was a masterclass from Maresca because PSG played their football, which worked all season, and why would they change anything?” Shearer continued.
“But I think the little adjustments from Maresca—their high pressing and all that—worked perfectly for them, and he deserves a huge amount of credit not only for the job he has done in this competition but for the whole season.”
The former Newcastle striker acknowledged the pressure and unpredictability that come with managing Chelsea, noting the club’s history of managerial changes. However, Shearer believes Maresca has defied expectations and firmly established his authority.
“I don’t think anyone knew what to expect because you know what happens at Chelsea—it has happened before: if you don’t win anything, you know exactly what is going to happen,” he said. “You are here for a reason and you know how it is going to work. He has done a great job, a really great job.”
With momentum on their side and further reinforcements expected in the transfer window, Chelsea’s resurgence under Maresca is gathering pace. According to Shearer, the rest of the Premier League should be on high alert.
