Official: Djordje Petrovic speaks on why he was Leaving Chelsea for Bournemouth in £25m Deal
Bournemouth have officially completed the signing of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea in a deal worth £25 million. The move comes after the Serbian’s successful loan spell at Strasbourg last season, where he impressed in Ligue 1.
Despite his strong performances, Chelsea were unwilling to guarantee him a starting position. With Robert Sanchez firmly established as first-choice and Filip Jorgensen pushing as second in command, Petrovic faced the prospect of limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Bournemouth’s official website, the 25-year-old explained his reasons for the move:
“I’m really happy to be here. I came to Bournemouth because I want to grow and I want to play at the best level. Together with this club, with these facilities, I think we can achieve it. I want to help the team get the results, improve every day and be a better player.”
At Chelsea, Sanchez’s recent heroics, especially during the Club World Cup where he helped secure victory with key saves and excellent distribution, have solidified his role as the number one goalkeeper. His performance against Paris Saint-Germain, in particular, earned high praise from teammates like Enzo Fernandez and Liam Delap.

As for Bournemouth, Petrovic arrives with plenty of potential and experience under his belt. The club sees him as a long-term solution in goal and are delighted to have secured a player eager to grow and contribute immediately.
