Chelsea and Bayern Locked in Jamie Bynoe-Gittens Battle, But Dortmund Yet to Talk

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has denied holding any discussions with Bayern Munich over the potential transfer of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, despite growing interest in the young English winger.

The 20-year-old’s future has been the subject of intense summer speculation, after falling down the pecking order under head coach Niko Kovac in the second half of last season. Frustrated by limited game time, Bynoe-Gittens is believed to be seeking a move — and Chelsea have already made two offers, both of which have been rejected.

While Chelsea have reportedly agreed personal terms with Bynoe-Gittens’ representatives, Dortmund are holding firm, valuing the player at around €60 million (£51m).

Bayern Munich have now emerged as another serious contender, as they explore alternatives to Nico Williams, who appears set to join Barcelona. However, Kehl insists there has been no contact between the clubs.

“I’m not currently in contact with Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl,” Kehl said during Dortmund’s Club World Cup training session in Fort Lauderdale. “But otherwise, we have a very good relationship. There’s nothing to say on the subject at the moment.”

Bayern’s interest in wingers spans a wide range of targets, including Rafael Leão (AC Milan), Cody Gakpo (Liverpool), Bradley Barcola (PSG), and Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton).

Eberl, who had accompanied Vincent Kompany’s squad to the United States for the Club World Cup, returned to Germany unexpectedly three days ago — fueling speculation about pending transfer business. Kehl, however, downplayed those rumors, saying Dortmund’s key directors, Hans-Joachim Watzke and Carsten Cramer, had also flown back for unrelated matters.

“They’re both traveling a lot, have many appointments, but will be back soon. These aren’t transfer issues. We’re already following them here.”

Kehl recently confirmed that internal talks are ongoing with Bynoe-Gittens to resolve the player’s situation.

“We’ve had one or two conversations with Jamie in the last few days,” he noted after Dortmund’s draw with Fluminense. “He’s professional enough to know that he has to perform. Jamie will still be very important for us in this tournament. We’ll see what happens after that.”

Bynoe-Gittens, who has 11 England U21 caps, is under contract at Dortmund until June 2028.
