Liverpool have been ravaged by injuries this season — a situation that made their 1-1 draw with Chelsea Women a month ago all the more surprising, given the limited options available to Gareth Taylor against a Blues side firmly in title-defence mode.
This time, though, there would be no such resistance.
Bompastor’s Bold Gamble Pays Off
Often criticised for conservative tactical choices, Sonia Bompastor took a significant risk at Anfield by deploying five attackers from the outset.
It didn’t take long for that gamble to pay off.
Chelsea overwhelmed Liverpool almost immediately, pinning the hosts back and suffocating them with relentless attacking movement and pace. The Reds simply couldn’t cope with the intensity or numbers flooding forward.
Kerr Leads the First-Half Blitz
Before Liverpool could regroup, Chelsea had already seized control.
Sam Kerr struck twice in quick succession, benefiting from acres of space to pick her shots and fire the Blues into a commanding 2-0 lead. The goals kept coming.
Wieke Kaptein and Aggie Beever-Jones soon joined the party, capping a devastating opening spell that saw Chelsea score four goals inside the first 32 minutes.
By half-time, the contest was effectively over.
Second-Half Control — and More Goals
Any lingering doubt was erased early in the second half when Johanna Rytting Kaneryd produced a fine strike to make it five.
Liverpool did manage a consolation through Jenna Clark, denying Livia Peng a clean sheet, but it barely dented Chelsea’s dominance.
The Blues responded emphatically, adding four goals in return — including a rare and memorable strike from Millie Bright, with the captain spending long spells operating almost as an auxiliary centre-forward.

A Statement Performance
From start to finish, this was Chelsea at their ruthless best — fearless in approach, fluid in attack, and utterly relentless.
Liverpool’s injury woes were evident, but that shouldn’t detract from the authority of Chelsea’s display. This was a team playing with confidence, cohesion, and a clear message to the rest of the league.

Final Word
Bold tactics. Total dominance. Goals everywhere.
This was Chelsea Women in full Carefree mode — and a reminder that when this side clicks, there are few who can live with them.
