Chelsea have been without Cole Palmer for much of the season, but this week finally brought a wave of positive news for Enzo Maresca’s side.
The 23-year-old — Chelsea’s standout performer last season with 18 goals and 14 assists — has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines. First came a groin injury, then a bizarre setback as he reportedly fractured his toe at home. The prolonged absence left a noticeable creative void in the Blues’ attack.
That void was especially clear during Chelsea’s recent 3–1 defeat to Leeds United, but ironically it was at Elland Road that supporters finally got the moment they had been waiting for.
Palmer Finally Returns
Palmer was introduced as a second-half substitute, completing almost 30 minutes — his first appearance since late September. He had already been named on the bench against Arsenal days earlier, signalling that his comeback was imminent.
Maresca did not hide his relief afterwards:
“That’s probably the only good news of the evening. I’m happy for him, he’s back. Now he needs to get back into shape a bit, and he’ll definitely be important for us. He’s getting better, but he needs minutes.”
The plan now is straightforward: gradually increase Palmer’s time on the pitch, with an hour of football the next logical step.

Likely to Start Against Bournemouth
Given that Palmer was declared ready before the Arsenal match and has now featured off the bench, all signs point to him starting against Bournemouth this weekend. His return could not come at a better time.
Despite being without their key playmaker for nearly two months, Chelsea have managed to stay competitive near the top of the table. But to turn competitiveness into consistency — and consistency into a genuine title challenge — Palmer’s influence will be crucial.
A Turning Point for Chelsea?
If Palmer quickly regains rhythm, Chelsea will regain not only creativity and goals, but also confidence. His partnership with Estevão, Neto and Nkunku remains one of the most exciting prospects under Maresca.
For now, the Blues finally have something truly positive to build on — and the timing could reshape their season.
