Cole Palmer’s Surprising Nickname for Estevao Revealed

Chelsea winger Cole Palmer has returned to training after a frustrating few months on the sidelines due to injury, and during a recent session at Cobham, he revealed a quirky nickname for his teammate Estevao.

The England international, 23, has not played since late September when he suffered a groin injury against Manchester United, later aggravated by a fractured toe at home. However, Palmer is now nearing full fitness and has been spotted practising his shooting in training.

In a video shared on Chelsea’s social media, Palmer scored repeatedly before jogging off while calling Estevao “Steve”—a nickname that has amused fans and highlighted the duo’s close relationship.

Estevao, 18, joined Chelsea last summer from Palmeiras in a £29million deal and has already impressed with five goals this season, including a crucial strike in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League. The Brazilian revealed the strong bond he shares with Palmer, calling him “like a brother” and praising how their playing styles complement each other.

Despite Chelsea’s recent unbeaten run in November, including draws against Barcelona and Arsenal, manager Enzo Maresca has warned his players against complacency. He emphasized the importance of upcoming Premier League fixtures against Leeds and Bournemouth:

“How many points beating Barcelona? Three points. How many points beating Arsenal? Three points. How many points beating Leeds? Three points… We need to be ready. We need to try to win both.”

Palmer is expected to feature for Chelsea for the first time since September, providing cover for the suspended Moises Caicedo, while Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo remain sidelined. Maresca indicated a cautious approach:

“He is available, he can start, the idea is to start giving minutes until he can play 90.”
