Chelsea Lead the Race for Santos Talent Souza as BlueCo Make First Move
Spanish publication AS reports that Chelsea are the only club to have taken concrete steps to acquire 19-year-old Santos left-back Souza. Barcelona and Bayern Munich tracked the defender for months, but neither went as far as making an offer, leaving Chelsea as the sole club to officially demonstrate interest in the player.

AS outlined that Chelsea, through the BlueCo ownership model, proposed a development pathway involving a move from Santos followed by an initial placement at Strasbourg to facilitate adaptation to European football.
Chelseaโs long-term plan
Chelsea’s idea was to secure the player early and allow him to acclimate to Ligue 1 before eventually making the jump to the Premier League. In October, Brazilian sources suggested that Todd Boehly personally approved the pursuit of Souza, signalling serious intent from the clubโs leadership.
Santosโ stance and contract conditions

Souzaโs current contract at Santos runs until December 2028 and includes a โฌ15 million release clause. However, Santos have no intention of selling him mid-season, particularly as they remain entrenched in a relegation fight. The Brazilian side already rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia and continue to treat Souza as a major future asset.
Why Souza appeals to Chelsea
The young defender has maintained his spot this season under three different coaches, demonstrating resilience and adaptability. His qualities โ height, pace, and forward-driving wing-back style โ align closely with attributes prized in English football, helping explain why Chelsea were proactive.
