Moises Caicedo Breaks Silence on Chelsea Transfer: “Everything Happens for a Reason”

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has finally spoken about his high-profile move to Stamford Bridge, explaining why he didn’t join Arsenal in the winter of 2023 and why Chelsea became his ultimate destination.

At the start of 2023, Arsenal were close to signing Caicedo, reportedly offering Brighton around £75 million. However, the Ecuadorian international decided to wait for the right opportunity.

“Everything happens for a reason. I almost signed for Arsenal, but now I’m here and I’m so happy. The timing was perfect,” Caicedo revealed.

He admitted that public criticism didn’t sway him as he waited for Chelsea’s offer:

“I waited for Chelsea to come for me. People laughed. They said I’d picked the wrong place, but sometimes it takes time to adapt to a big club. I needed that.”

A move motivated by ambition

Caicedo’s decision was not just about joining a top team — it was about trust and ambition.

“I want to give this club my all because they never doubted me. I chose Chelsea because they have ambition. I want to win trophies – more trophies – with this club.”

Sources including Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein reported that the reason the Arsenal deal never happened was Brighton’s refusal to sell in January 2023. By the summer, Arsenal had abandoned their pursuit, allowing Chelsea to make a decisive move for the Ecuadorian star.
