Romeo Lavia Sends Message of Support to Injured Dario Essugo

Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia has shown his support for teammate Dario Essugo, who recently suffered a thigh injury while on international duty with Portugal’s U21s.

Essugo, signed from Sporting Lisbon in the summer for around £18m, made his debut at the Club World Cup and was expected to provide crucial depth in midfield this season. The 20-year-old was brought in as cover for Moises Caicedo, allowing the Ecuadorian some much-needed rest during Chelsea’s packed schedule.

Essugo Faces Extended Spell on Sidelines

Chelsea confirmed that Essugo underwent successful surgery and will now begin his rehabilitation with the club’s medical staff. It is a significant setback for the youngster, who was yet to make his Premier League debut for the Blues.

Romeo Lavia, who has endured a long road back from multiple injuries since joining Chelsea from Southampton in 2023, offered words of encouragement to his teammate on Instagram.

Essugo’s injury leaves Chelsea slightly short in midfield, but there was a timely boost as Lavia returned to full training this week. Enzo Maresca will hope to have him available as soon as possible, with a decision on his involvement against Brentford still to be made.
