Jamie Gittens to Chelsea: Transfer News
Chelsea are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over the signing of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, with negotiations reportedly being held on Wednesday ahead of Dortmund’s final Club World Cup group match against Ulsan.
Negotiations have been “positive,” but no contract was inked, Sky Germany said. Dortmund remain firm on asking €65 million (£55m) for the 20-year-old winger despite Chelsea wishing to settle for lower.
Even though Chelsea can now register new signings for Club World Cup knockout rounds from Friday on, Gittens is not qualified to play because he already played in the tournament for Dortmund.
Transfer Registration Rules
Chelsea can bring in as many as six players for the knockout stages.
Two of them could be new signings; four must replace existing players.
Squad changes for the last time must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to kick-off, therefore Thursday’s deadline for registration is 9pm BST.
Garnacho Transfer Twist: Asking Price Scales Back
Manchester United have, in the meantime, dropped their asking price for Alejandro Garnacho from £60m to £40m, The Mirror suggests.
The Argentine talent is known to have outraged club officials after posting on Instagram a photograph of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with the name Marcus Rashford printed on it — a gesture viewed internally as provocative.
United are now known to be actively soliciting interest in Garnacho and open to negotiating a lower price.
What This Means for Chelsea
Gittens remains a target of choice for an attack, but Dortmund’s valuation is still holding him back.
Garnacho is a potential shock chance, but his valuation has fallen and United appear to want to sell.
Both would be longer-term projects, but Garnacho in isolation would be eligible for instant Club World Cup registration (assuming a deal is done in time).
