Troy Deeney Slams Alejandro Garnacho After Chelsea’s Win Over Fulham
Garnacho Endures Another Quiet Outing
Alejandro Garnacho’s Chelsea career is yet to ignite, with the Argentine winger still searching for his first goal in blue.
Since his arrival from Manchester United in the summer, Garnacho has shown flashes of potential but has struggled to make a consistent impact. His most notable contribution so far came in the Champions League against Benfica, when his cross forced an own goal in a 2–1 victory.
With key attackers Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernández, and Moises Caicedo all sidelined, Garnacho was handed a rare start against Fulham. While Chelsea ultimately secured a 3–0 win after a dominant second-half display, the 20-year-old failed to seize his opportunity to impress.
Deeney Questions Garnacho’s Attitude
Speaking on talkSPORT, former Watford striker Troy Deeney did not hold back in his assessment of Garnacho’s performance and attitude on the pitch.
“Really disappointed in Garnacho today. Not sold on him anyway, as you know,” Deeney said.
“I’m not an expert on body language, but his entitlement winds me up no end. The fact that he hasn’t sprinted yet once, and we’re 33 minutes into a game.
He’s not running with any intensity. He’s not saying, ‘I’m in a fortunate position — I’ve left Manchester United at a poor moment and joined a Chelsea team that are flying.’”
Deeney: ‘He’s Not Giving You Anything’
Deeney was particularly critical of Garnacho’s work rate, accusing the young winger of failing to put in the necessary effort during his second start of the season.
“He’s been given a start — his second of the season — and he’s not giving you anything. He’s not running around,” Deeney added.
“Every time the ball comes out to him, unless it’s perfect, he’s not going to run. The sense of entitlement in the young man is frightening.”
Numbers Back Up the Criticism
Garnacho’s statistics from the Fulham clash tell a similar story. The Argentine managed just one touch inside the opposition box and failed to create a single chance before being substituted in the second half.
For a player once tipped as one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers, it was another frustrating display — and with competition from Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, and Estevao Willian, his place in Enzo Maresca’s plans could be under real pressure.
Time to Respond
At just 20, Garnacho has time on his side, but performances like Sunday’s will raise questions about his attitude and application. Chelsea fans will hope the criticism acts as motivation rather than a setback, as the Blues enter a crucial stretch of fixtures across three competitions.
