Even after leaving Chelsea FC, Thiago Silva continues to show his admiration for the club — and particularly for the rapid development of Joao Pedro.

The Brazilian striker has been one of Chelsea’s standout performers this season, producing an impressive run of form in recent weeks. With 18 goals already and a quarter of the campaign still remaining, Pedro has quickly established himself as a key figure in the attack.

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has even gone as far as comparing Pedro’s impact to that of club legend Didier Drogba, highlighting just how influential the striker has become.

Thiago Silva Impressed by Pedro’s Movement

Speaking to TNT Sports Brasil, Silva reflected on facing Pedro several times across different clubs and admitted he has been particularly impressed by the striker’s movement and physical growth.

“João Pedro. I faced him at Watford, at Brighton, and now at Chelsea. João Pedro moves a lot, right?”

Silva continued by comparing Pedro’s playing style with some of Europe’s elite forwards.

“That’s what I was trying to say – because I put Haaland at eight. João Pedro is basically on the same line as Benzema and Kane. I don’t mean technically, I mean in terms of movement: drifting away from you, almost playing like a false nine, and he’s physically strong.”

He added that Pedro’s strength has noticeably improved over time.

“You think he’s weak, you go in, and he already bumps into you. At the Club World Cup I gave him a shove and thought, wow, he’s gotten much stronger from last year to now.”

Memorable Clash at the Club World Cup

One of the most memorable encounters between the two came during the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final in July 2025.

At the time, Silva was playing for Fluminense FC, while Pedro had only just completed his move to Chelsea.

The match took place at MetLife Stadium, and Pedro delivered a statement performance by scoring two goals to knock out his boyhood club.

It was a remarkable introduction to life at Chelsea — eliminating a team led by one of the greatest centre-backs of his generation.

Chelsea’s Striker Delivering on Expectations

With Chelsea reportedly paying around £60 million for Pedro, the early signs suggest the investment has already been justified.

As Liam Rosenior’s side continues to chase UEFA Champions League qualification and a top-five finish in the Premier League, Pedro’s goals could prove decisive in the final stretch of the season.

If his current trajectory continues, the Brazilian striker may soon find himself mentioned alongside some of the best forwards in Europe.
