Musonda, a Belgian midfielder, joined Stamford Bridge in 2012 from Anderlecht alongside his brothers Tika and Charly Musonda. He spent two years in Chelseaโs academy system before returning to Belgium to play for Mechelen. His career also took him to Spainโs Llagostera and Palamos, as well as Congolese giants Mazembe. He earned nine caps for Belgiumโs U21 side before retiring from professional football in 2020.
In a poignant social media post, Musonda reflected on his life and the challenges he has faced, writing:
“As I realise I only have a few days left, I also realise I had a lot of people by my side and I’ll always cherish the memories. Life is hard, but the view is great.”
Writing in French, he added:
“Life is made of highs and lows, and no-one can truly understand the pain you go through. These last two years have been particularly difficult and challenging for me. It is with great sadness that I announce that I am struggling to get my health back. This is the reason why I have been absent from social media. I have to face facts โ my health is critical, and I’m now fighting to survive. Your aid and prayers will be a great help during this time. My family and I are fighting, and I won’t quit until my last breath.”
Musondaโs words highlight the resilience and gratitude that have defined his life both on and off the pitch.
Gratitude and Legacy
Following an outpouring of support from fans, former teammates, and the football community, Musonda expressed appreciation for the messages he has received.
“I am in no means the perfect human being. No one is. I want to thank football and school also, for giving me real life lessons. I want to be remembered as someone who didn’t fall in love with the adulations. But the good people I met along the way… the teammates, the teachers, the coaches, the bus drivers… It’s for them, I fight and stay strong. Let’s win each day at a time.”
Musonda emphasized that he wishes to be remembered not for his professional achievements but for the positive impact he had on those around him.
Lamisha comes from a family deeply rooted in football:
Charly Musonda, 29, has made seven senior appearances for Chelsea and enjoyed a loan spell at Celtic.
Tika Musonda has retired from playing professionally and now works in scouting.
The Musonda family has been a familiar presence in Chelseaโs academy, and Lamishaโs journey remains a poignant reminder of both the triumphs and fragility of life beyond football.
