Enzo Maresca faced the media after Chelsea’s disappointing 0–0 draw with Bournemouth — and before any tactical talk or reflection on the performance, the manager was asked about Liam Delap, who suffered a worrying shoulder injury during the match.
“His shoulder looks quite bad” – Maresca gives bleak update
Delap went down heavily after challenging for a corner, immediately signalling to the bench. The fear of a serious injury was obvious, and Maresca’s early assessment did nothing to calm concerns.
“Unfortunately he will be out again – we don’t know how long,” Maresca confirmed.
“But his shoulder looks quite bad. He has been unlucky, he has been out two months already and needs to be out again.”
The striker had only just returned from injury, and this latest setback could now rule him out for weeks or even months, depending on the severity of the damage.

Chelsea’s attacking options stretched — again
Cole Palmer made his long-awaited return today, giving the Blues a crucial creative spark. But even with Delap available, Chelsea had been light up front. Now, without him, Maresca will have no choice but to turn more heavily to Marc Guiu, who came off the bench against Bournemouth and is expected to feature much more regularly in the coming fixtures.
Delap’s injury leaves Chelsea with just one recognised centre-forward option in the first team, further exposing the squad’s lack of depth in attacking areas.
Another frustrating December at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea fans know all too well that December fixtures rarely go smoothly — and today felt like another chapter in that familiar story.
Maresca summed up the match bluntly:
“I think a lack of quality in the last third cost us. Some moments, we know we are not going to score every game… It was important to keep the clean sheet.”
A clean sheet, yes — but hardly much consolation for supporters watching a side once again struggling to put the ball in the net.
