Liam Rosenior has made it clear that simply holding the Chelsea job is not enough for him — his sole focus is on delivering results.
The 41-year-old new head coach watched from the stands on Tuesday night as Chelsea slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage, extending their miserable league run to one win in nine.
It was a sobering introduction to life at Stamford Bridge, even before Rosenior officially takes charge on the training pitch.
A Difficult Watch from the Stands
Chelsea’s task was made significantly harder when Marc Cucurella was sent off in the first half, leaving the Blues to battle with ten men for over an hour.
There was at least one positive moment on the night, as Liam Delap scored his first Premier League goal for the club to bring Chelsea level in the second half. However, Fulham struck back through Harry Wilson, condemning the visitors to another damaging defeat.
The result leaves Chelsea eighth in the Premier League, having won just eight of their 21 league matches this season — a return that falls well short of expectations.
Rosenior’s Message to the Players
If Rosenior had any doubts about the scale of the task awaiting him, they will have been dispelled by Tuesday’s performance.
Arriving at Craven Cottage on the Chelsea team bus, the former Strasbourg boss spoke to Sky Sports before kick-off and revealed the message he had delivered to the squad ahead of the match.
“My biggest focus is not about being a Chelsea manager,” Rosenior said.
“It’s about being a winning Chelsea manager, and that is the message that I gave the players yesterday.”
It was a short but powerful statement — one that reflects the urgency of Chelsea’s current situation.
Pressure Starts Immediately
Rosenior will need an instant reaction from the squad, starting with his first game in charge against Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday.
Chelsea do not return to Premier League action until January 17, meaning the cup competitions could offer both breathing space and momentum during a turbulent period.
FA Cup and Carabao Cup Opportunities
The Blues begin their FA Cup campaign away at Charlton, with hopes of lifting the famous trophy for the first time since 2018.
That is followed quickly by a much sterner test, as Chelsea host Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final next Tuesday. With Wembley within touching distance, Rosenior has an immediate chance to unite the fanbase through results on the pitch.
Chelsea’s new era officially begins now — and Rosenior has already drawn his line in the sand. It’s not about status, reputation, or patience. It’s about winning — and doing so quickly.
