Chelsea defender Jorrel Hato has spoken of the renewed optimism inside the squad following Liam Rosenior’s arrival, revealing the key message delivered by the new head coach during his first address to the players.
Rosenior officially took charge of his first Chelsea training session on Thursday afternoon, beginning preparations for Saturday night’s FA Cup third-round tie against Charlton Athletic. While the on-pitch work marked the start of a new era, the former Strasbourg boss had already met the squad earlier in the week after his appointment was confirmed on Tuesday.
“Everyone Is Excited” – Hato on Rosenior’s Impact
After a turbulent few days at the club, Hato admitted the players are eager to embrace a fresh chapter under new leadership.
“Everyone is excited to work with the new coach and the new energy he brings,”
Hato told Chelsea’s in-house media.
“It has been a difficult time, changing managers and the last couple of games we didn’t win, but now with the new manager we have a fresh start for everyone.”
Chelsea have endured a challenging period on and off the pitch, but Rosenior’s arrival appears to have lifted spirits inside the dressing room.
Winning Mentality the Key Message
Hato also shed light on what Rosenior emphasised in his first speech to the squad, highlighting a clear focus on mentality and belief.
“I have a lot of faith in my team-mates and in the new manager to be better and win these games,”
the former Ajax defender explained.
“He spoke to us about the winning mentality, so we’re looking forward to getting started.”
With little time to work with the squad before his debut match, Rosenior has wasted no time in setting expectations.
Opportunity Knocks for Hato
Hato is expected to benefit immediately from the managerial change. The 19-year-old is likely to earn his first start under Rosenior this weekend, with Marc Cucurella suspended following his red card in Wednesday’s defeat to Fulham.
The Dutch defender has featured just nine times in all competitions this season under Enzo Maresca, with a further two appearances coming during Calum McFarlane’s brief interim spell.
Rosenior’s appointment could provide renewed hope not only for Hato, but for several fringe players eager to seize their chance and establish themselves under the new regime.
