Chelsea legend John Terry is set to part with some of the most iconic memorabilia from his storied career, including the infamous “tear-stained” shirt from the 2008 Champions League final defeat to Manchester United. The auction will benefit the John Terry Foundation, supporting causes close to the former Blues captain’s heart.
Auction Highlights: From Heartbreak to Triumph
Terry’s collection features 26 lots, headlined by two Champions League final shirts:
- 2008 Moscow final shirt – Worn during Chelsea’s dramatic loss to Manchester United, remembered for Terry’s missed penalty in the shootout after slipping. Terry has described it as his most emotional shirt, calling it “tear-stained.”
- 2012 Champions League kit – Despite being suspended for the final against Bayern Munich, Terry famously wore the full playing kit while lifting the trophy alongside his teammates, symbolizing ultimate redemption on Europe’s biggest stage.
Why Terry is Selling
Speaking about the auction, Terry emphasized that the motivation is charity, not sentimentality:
“My foundation is going to benefit with two close-to-my-heart charities which desperately need the money, so it is going to a great cause.”
He hopes the memorabilia will raise significant funds while giving fans and collectors the chance to own tangible pieces of Chelsea’s golden era.
