Chelsea’s summer transfer window remains hectic, with several outgoings still to be resolved. The club faces a race against time to finalise sales before the new season begins—but one complex deal finally appears to be gaining traction.
Joao Félix’s departure from Stamford Bridge is gathering momentum, with former club Benfica now working on a deal to bring the forward back to Portugal. Negotiations are ongoing between the two clubs and Félix’s representatives, as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
“It’s a tricky deal,” Romano explained in his latest YouTube update, pointing to Félix’s high wages and the substantial fee Chelsea paid Atletico Madrid to bring him in. The move was always expected to be difficult to navigate, but Benfica remain keen on a reunion with their academy graduate and are pushing to make it happen.
Félix, who joined Chelsea on loan in January 2023 before a more permanent agreement was pursued, has struggled to settle at Stamford Bridge despite glimpses of quality. A return to Lisbon would mark a fresh start for the 24-year-old, and Chelsea are hopeful a deal can be finalised soon to ease pressure on their wage bill and allow room for further squad reshaping.
Chelsea still have several more players to offload before the window closes, and while time is tight, Félix’s potential exit provides a small boost to the club’s ongoing rebuild.
