Enzo Maresca Admits Nicolas Jackson’s Chelsea Future is Uncertain
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has acknowledged that he cannot guarantee Nicolas Jackson’s future at the club amid ongoing transfer speculation.
The Blues have strengthened their attacking options by signing Joao Pedro from Brighton and Liam Delap from Ipswich this summer. As a result, the club is understood to be open to selling Jackson if a significant offer is made.
Addressing the situation, Maresca said:
“Nico is okay. When the transfer window is open, unfortunately or fortunately, anything can happen. This also involves Nico’s situation. At the moment we have had two strikers arrive — both of them are in the USA — Joao and Liam. So we will see what happens.”
Maresca also confirmed that defender Levi Colwill has sustained an injury that could rule him out of the start of the Premier League season.
Without giving too much away, Enzo Maresca has all but confirmed that Nicolas Jackson is available for transfer. It’s a delicate position for the Chelsea head coach — he doesn’t want to guarantee the striker’s future and be proven wrong, nor does he want to make it seem like the 24-year-old is being forced out.
Jackson could still remain at Stamford Bridge and play a key role in the upcoming campaign. But unless there’s clarity in the next few days, speculation around his future is likely to continue until the transfer window closes.
The latest indications suggest Chelsea are in no rush. The club appears prepared to wait, allowing interested teams to grow increasingly eager as the deadline nears. All signs point to this saga dragging on until the final hours of the window.
Chelsea face Bayer Leverkusen in a pre-season friendly on Friday. Their summer preparations began later than most due to their participation in the Club World Cup.
