Emmanuel Petit Slams Chelsea Lack of Vision After Enzo Maresca Sacking

Former Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has delivered a blunt assessment of the club’s current direction, questioning the vision behind the decision to part ways with Enzo Maresca.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Petit suggested Chelsea’s project has become overly focused on finances, with little evidence of long-term football planning.

“It’s Only Based on Money”

Petit did not hold back when discussing the ownership’s approach:

“There’s no vision, they cannot see the future of it. It’s only based on money, money, money. I understand that, that’s the situation in football now. We have to accept it,” he said.

However, the French World Cup winner was quick to add that financial realities should not excuse a lack of patience or planning:

“But in the meantime, it doesn’t mean you cannot have a vision on a couple of years and stick with it.”

Petit Points to Arsenal as the Blueprint

To underline his argument, Petit referenced a club he knows well from the other side of London — Arsenal.

“Arteta was under such pressure for two years when he took over at Arsenal,” Petit explained.
“And the board kept him. Look what is happening right now.”

While acknowledging Arsenal’s limited silverware under Mikel Arteta so far, Petit highlighted the bigger picture:

“OK, they didn’t win anything at all except for the FA Cup. But they are on a good way to win the Premier League and you can see the DNA of the team on the pitch.”

The Chelsea Cycle Continues

It’s fair to say Chelsea were unlikely to win the Premier League this season under Enzo Maresca. But as Petit’s comments imply, they are even less likely to build something meaningful if managers are removed at the first sustained dip in form.

Now, Liam Rosenior becomes the latest head coach tasked with steadying the ship — and the question almost asks itself.

Will he still be in the job in two years’ time?

Given Chelsea’s recent track record, the odds are not exactly in his favour.

Final Thought

Chelsea’s problem may not simply be who is in the dugout, but how long they are allowed to stay there. Until that changes, Petit’s criticism will continue to resonate with large sections of the fanbase.
