FIFA’s Growing U.S. Footprint

The announcement comes as FIFA strengthens its American presence, having just opened a new office in New York’s Trump Tower. FIFA President Gianni Infantino presided over the opening ceremony alongside Eric Trump and Brazilian football legend Ronaldo.

Infantino explained the strategic move:

“We have to be in New York – not just for the FIFA Club World Cup this year and the FIFA World Cup next year – we have to be in New York as well when it comes to where our offices are based.”

Unusually Close Trump-Infantino Relationship Raises Eyebrows

The partnership between Trump and Infantino has drawn scrutiny:

  • Infantino has visited the White House and Mar-a-Lago multiple times
  • Skipped FIFA’s Congress in Paraguay to join Trump on a Gulf tour this spring
  • Faces strong criticism from European football authorities over perceived politicization

The U.S. is also staging the enlarged 2025 Club World Cup and is co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Canada and Mexico. Trump, who chairs a White House task force organizing tournament preparations, has been deeply engaged with major sporting events throughout his political career.

FIFA’s Growing U.S. Footprint

FIFA President Gianni Infantino stressed the importance of the organization’s development in the U.S., stating:

“Fifa is a global organisation, and if you want to be global, you have to be local. You have to be everywhere—so we have to be in New York.”

The new location’s Trump Tower office follows FIFA’s already established Miami hub, doubling down on its U.S. football development investment with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon. Infantino also went on to personally thank Trump for his administration’s support, despite controversies over immigration policies and travel bans.

Club World Cup Final: Chelsea vs. PSG or Real Madrid

Chelsea will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid in the final. MetLife Stadium, which will also host the 2026 World Cup final, will have a record-breaking attendance, and Trump’s attendance will attract political and media attention.

Trump’s Increased Sports Involvement

Trump has been increasingly involved in sports after his presidency, such as:

Being the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl (2025).

Securing Washington D.C. the host city for the 2027 NFL Draft.

Attending a number of UFC events, including hosting a UFC event at the White House in 2025.

His trip to the Club World Cup is part of this trend, combining sports, politics, and global spectacle.

Controversy Over Travel Restrictions
In spite of Infantino’s insistence that fans will be welcome, Trump’s crackdown on immigration and possible extension of travel bans (allegedly add
