Cole Palmer Reveals What Donald Trump Told Him During Club World Cup Celebrations
Cole Palmer has finally revealed what Donald Trump said to him during Chelsea’s Club World Cup celebrations following their 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey on July 13.
Palmer, 23, delivered a standout performance in the final, scoring twice and assisting Joao Pedro’s goal, earning the Club World Cup MVP award. He was presented the award by U.S. President Donald Trump, who was present at the MetLife Stadium.
Unusually, Trump remained on stage while Chelsea captain Reece James lifted the trophy, drawing attention during the post-match celebrations.
When asked about the moment, Reece James admitted he couldn’t hear much over the noise.
“To be honest, it was quite loud,” James said. “I couldn’t hear too much. He just congratulated me and the team for lifting the trophy and told us to enjoy the moment.”
Palmer added that he was “confused” by the former president’s presence on stage.
“I knew he was going to be there but I didn’t know he would be on the stand when we lifted the trophy,” Palmer said. “I was a bit confused, yeah.”
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Palmer shared more about the brief exchange with Trump.
“When he gave me the award, he said his son is my biggest fan,” said Palmer. “I can’t remember what I said. I think I just said, ‘Thank you’ or something.”
Currently on holiday in Saint Kitts and Nevis, where his family originates, Palmer reflected on the importance of staying connected to his roots.
“It’s important to come back to where your family is from,” he said. “It’s nice to see how they grew up and their culture compared to ours. We were in America for the Club World Cup and it’s close, so we thought we’d just come over and see everything.”

“The game is about unity, it is about everyone getting together,” he said. “It’s about a lot of love between different international countries.”
“This is the most international sport on the planet, so it can really bring the world together.”
