Chelsea Prepare for Further Summer Transfer Exits as Veiga’s Departure Nears
Chelsea are shifting focus to player departures following their return from Club World Cup duties, with one potential exit raising eyebrows within the club’s hierarchy.
The Blues have already completed several key signings this window, with Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and Joao Pedro standing out as marquee arrivals. According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea remain in talks over two additional signings, although further incomings will depend heavily on outgoing transfers.
The squad selection for the Club World Cup in the United States offered insight into Enzo Maresca’s plans. Notably, Renato Veigawas left out of the traveling party — a decision that has sparked surprise among some staff members.
Veiga, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at Juventus, had been keen to secure regular minutes in a central defensive role. His January exit was primarily motivated by limited opportunities in his preferred position at Stamford Bridge.
Now back at Chelsea, Veiga is once again set for a summer move. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has told The Chelsea Chronicle that the club expects him to depart, with interest from Bayern Munich and several English clubs. Bailey also noted some surprise internally that Juventus have not returned with an offer.
“The Veiga situation – I think there is a bit of interest there. I do know Chelsea are a bit surprised that Juventus haven’t come back for him actually, but there is that interest from Bayern Munich, and there is some interest in England as well. Veiga’s going to go, which has surprised a few at the club. I think they did think that he would get his chance centrally.”

Chelsea Eye Hato as Veiga’s Successor
Veiga, who earned praise as “excellent” after breaking into the Portuguese national team, had generated excitement around his potential at Chelsea. However, with his exit likely, the club is preparing a move for a direct replacement.
Chelsea are currently favourites to sign Jorrel Hato, a highly rated defensive prospect. The interest in Hato is largely driven by the need to provide cover for Marc Cucurella, with the left-back position otherwise lacking depth.
Should Veiga depart, and with limited alternatives in the squad who can play at left-back, Hato’s potential arrival could be a key piece of business for Maresca’s new-look side.
Chelsea’s summer activity, both in terms of sales and strategic signings, continues to reflect the club’s long-term restructuring under the current ownership.
