Joao Pedro hailed Liam Rosenior’s impact after scoring in Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League win over Brentford, his seventh league goal of the season.
Joao Pedro opened the scoring as Chelsea secured a crucial 2-0 Premier League victory over Brentford on Saturday, marking Liam Rosenior’s first league win as Blues head coach.
The Brazilian forward took his chance calmly in the first half before Cole Palmer doubled Chelsea’s lead after the break, sealing a professional performance in the west London derby.
Overall, Pedro delivered an excellent display, leading the line effectively and underlining his importance in Rosenior’s early reign.
Joao Pedro: Rosenior Wants Chelsea to Be “Braver”
Speaking after the match, Pedro revealed that Rosenior has already made a noticeable impact on the squad’s mentality, encouraging the players to take more responsibility on the ball.
“He wants us to be brave and play,” Pedro told BBC Sport.
“It’s very good for us because we have talent.”
That bravery was evident against Brentford, with Chelsea playing with greater confidence and composure, particularly in attacking areas.
Chelsea’s Leading Scorer This Season
Pedro’s opener was his seventh Premier League goal of the season, making him Chelsea’s outright top scorer in the league.
He had been level with Enzo Fernandez on six goals prior to kick-off, but now leads the internal scoring charts outright.
However, competition for places is beginning to intensify.
Healthy Competition With Liam Delap
With Liam Delap now fully fit, Pedro knows he must maintain his form to keep his place in Rosenior’s starting XI. Delap made a positive impact off the bench against Brentford, winning the penalty that led to Palmer’s goal after recovering from a recent illness.
Pedro welcomed the competition, stressing that it can only benefit the team.
“It’s not competition in a bad way,” he said.
“It’s good for both if both are fit. We want to help the team. If he starts, I will be ready. It’s good for Chelsea.”
While Pedro has seven league goals this season, Delap has managed one so far — coming in Chelsea’s recent 2-1 defeat to Fulham — though injuries have limited the 22-year-old’s opportunities.
Now back to full fitness, Delap will be hoping to add to his tally, giving Rosenior valuable options as Chelsea push for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.
