An exclusive report has claimed that Chelsea have made an approach for a new manager — and it is not Liam Rosenior.
Rosenior, currently in charge of Strasbourg and already part of Chelsea’s BlueCo multi-club setup, has been widely tipped as the leading candidate to replace Enzo Maresca, who was sacked on New Year’s Day.
The English coach even appeared to hint at an impending departure after Strasbourg’s latest Ligue 1 clash against Nice, seemingly saying his goodbyes — which only strengthened the belief that his move to Stamford Bridge was imminent.
Because of that, it comes as a surprise to see Chelsea now being linked with another high-profile name. That said, in modern football — and particularly at Chelsea — very little shocks anyone anymore.
Chelsea Linked With Eddie Howe
According to Football Insider, Chelsea have sounded out Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe about the possibility of him becoming their next head coach.
The report claims Howe is firmly on Chelsea’s radar, although there are obvious doubts over whether he would consider leaving Newcastle mid-season, especially to join a club where managerial tenures have been notoriously short in recent years.

Why the Move Is Highly Unlikely
In reality, this feels like a link with very little substance.
Howe is deeply embedded in Newcastle’s long-term project, is trusted by the club’s ownership, and has already proven capable of delivering stability and progress at St James’ Park. There is little incentive for him to abandon that halfway through the campaign.
Equally, Newcastle are extremely unlikely to allow their manager to leave at this stage of the season — particularly to a direct Premier League rival.
Chelsea may well admire Howe, and it’s understood he has been discussed internally at Stamford Bridge on more than one occasion in recent years. But admiration does not equal availability.
Rosenior Still the Clear Favourite
For now, this feels like a rumour that can be parked and moved on from.
All signs continue to point towards Liam Rosenior becoming Chelsea’s next head coach, with the structure, timing, and BlueCo connection all lining up neatly.
If anything, an announcement could arrive very early next week, provided negotiations progress as expected.
