Chelsea could be facing fresh injury concerns following their 3-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, a night where Cole Palmer’s bright display was one of the few positives for Enzo Maresca’s side.

Palmer, making his first start in several weeks after recovering from a groin issue, scored Chelsea’s only goal of the night at the Allianz Arena. The England international thought he had bagged a brace late on, but his second was ruled out.

Despite his lively performance, Palmer was seen clutching his groin in the final minutes, raising fears that his injury troubles may have flared up again.

Enzo Maresca Gives Early Update

Speaking after the game, Maresca offered a degree of reassurance over Palmer’s status.
“Cole, I think, is okay. He said he was okay,” the Chelsea head coach told reporters.

Even so, with a quick turnaround before Saturday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United, Maresca will be cautious about risking his star man.

Chalobah Also Concern for Blues

Trevoh Chalobah also caused concern when he went down holding his shoulder after a collision with Harry Kane in the second half. The defender was able to play on and complete the match, suggesting the problem is not serious, but his fitness will be monitored in the coming days.

Chelsea Injury Round-Up

Here’s the latest on Chelsea’s current injury situation:

  • Cole Palmer (Groin): Played 90 minutes against Bayern but looked uncomfortable late on. Expected to be assessed ahead of United clash.
  • Trevoh Chalobah (Shoulder): Received treatment but finished the match. Likely available for the weekend.
  • Benoit Badiashile (Hamstring): Back in training but still a few games away from a return. Potential return date: Brighton (H) – September 27.
  • Romeo Lavia (Ankle): Making progress on the grass at London Colney. Potential return date: Brighton (H) – September 27.
  • Liam Delap (Hamstring): Expected back in December after a 10–12 week lay-off.
  • Dario Essugo (Thigh): Recently underwent surgery. Out until early 2026.
  • Levi Colwill (ACL): Facing a lengthy absence, likely to miss most of the 2025/26 season.

Focus Turns to Manchester United

With Chelsea’s Champions League opener ending in defeat, attention now shifts to Saturday evening’s trip to Old Trafford. Maresca will hope Palmer and Chalobah are passed fit to avoid further disruption to his starting XI.
