Chelsea Women Book Champions League Quarter-Final Spot as English Sides Progress
Chelsea Women secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals after a brilliant comeback win away at Wolfsburg, while Arsenal and Manchester United both did enough to reach the play-off stage.
Lucy Bronze and Sam Kerr were on target as Chelsea fought back from behind to claim a 2-1 victory in Germany. It was a historic night for the Blues, who became the first English club to win at the AOK Stadion. Sonia Bompastor’s side started and finished the evening in third place in the group, doing exactly what was required to reach the last eight.

Arsenal narrowly missed out on a top-four finish despite a convincing 3-0 win over Belgian side OH Leuven at Den Dreef Stadium. Goals from Olivia Smith and Beth Mead in the first half put the Gunners in control before an own goal from Saar Janssen sealed the result. Both clubs finished in positions that send them into the play-offs.
Manchester United also head into the knockout phase after a 1-0 victory away to Juventus in Turin. Jess Park scored the decisive goal in the first half, securing sixth place in the table for Marc Skinner’s side. United had already guaranteed their place in the play-offs, but the win gives them a more favourable draw when it is made on Friday at 12pm.
Barcelona finished top of their group after a 2-0 away win against Paris FC. Vicky Lopez opened the scoring before half-time, and Caroline Graham Hansen struck early in the second half to make sure of victory. Despite the defeat, Paris FC finished 10th and will also be involved in the play-off draw.
Eight-time winners Lyon ended the group stage level on points with Barcelona after a dominant 4-0 home win against Atletico Madrid. An own goal from Vilde Boe Risa gave Lyon the lead before Wendie Renard converted a penalty, with Kadidiatou Diani and Korbin Shrader adding further goals. Atletico were reduced to 10 players after Luany’s straight red card but still finished comfortably in a play-off position.
Bayern Munich claimed an automatic quarter-final place by finishing in the top four following a 3-0 home win over Valerenga. Early goals from Momoko Tanikawa and Stine Ballisager set the tone, before Pernille Harder added a second-half header to confirm Bayern’s progression alongside Chelsea, Barcelona and Lyon.
Real Madrid secured seventh place and a seeded play-off spot thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from Sara Dabritz in a 1-1 draw away at Twente. Elsewhere, Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain, both already eliminated, played out a 1-1 draw in Lisbon.
Roma bowed out of the competition on a high, with Canada forward Evelyne Viens scoring a hat-trick in a dominant 6-1 home win over St Polten, despite both sides already being eliminated.
For Chelsea fans, the focus now turns to the quarter-final draw, with the Blues once again proving they belong among Europe’s elite.
