Bayern Munich Targeting Renato Veiga as Defensive Reinforcement from Chelsea
Bayern Munich’s Search for a Centre-Back
Bayern Munich are reportedly targeting Chelsea center back Renato Veiga as they look to shore up their defense over the offseason. The 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder, who can also function as a defensive midfielder, was labeled by the Bavarians as a player of “tremendous potential.”.
Despite the recent signing of Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern may need an additional defender if Kim Min-jae departs. The South Korean has fallen out of favor with new manager Vincent Kompany, featuring not a minute in the FIFA Club World Cup, and his departure now seems inevitable.
Chelsea’s Willingness to Sell Veiga
Veiga joined Chelsea from Basel in 2024 but was loaned out last season to Juventus. The Blues will consider a permanent sale with new manager Enzo Maresca dropping him from his plans.

Bayern will allegedly have to pay around £30 million to sign Veiga, but Chelsea’s financial situation may prompt them to accept less.
UEFA’s Chelsea Financial Slap – Bayern Boost?
In a dramatic twist, UEFA has slapped Chelsea with a £26.7 million fine for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, with a further £51.2 million fine over their head if they fail to comply.
Chelsea cannot sign new transfers (like Liam Delap, João Pedro, Estevão Willian, and Jamie Gittens) to play in the Champions League unless they are in profit this summer, BBC Sport reports.
To offset their £170 million binge, Chelsea will need to sell players—and Veiga is one of those deemed expendable, along with Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Armando Broja, and João Félix.
Bayern’s Negotiation Advantage
Since Veiga is not in the immediate plans of Chelsea, Bayern can use the Blues’ desperation for urgent sales to their advantage by demanding a price discount. While the opening bid is £30 million, a deal worth between £20-25 million could be on the table.
Bayern need depth in CB, especially if Min-jae leaves.
Veiga is an adaptable young player with tremendous potential.
Chelsea’s financial pressure can mean a bargain buy.
