Bayern Director Praises Nicolas Jackson’s Impact Despite Bundesliga Goal Drought
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has publicly praised Nicolas Jackson for his contribution to the team this season, despite the on-loan Chelsea striker still waiting for his first Bundesliga goal.
The Senegalese forward, who joined Bayern on loan from Chelsea last summer, has found the net twice in the Champions League, but is yet to get off the mark domestically.
Jackson started in Bayern’s 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach at the weekend before being substituted in the 59th minute. After the match, Eberl spoke positively about the striker’s overall performance and attitude.
Eberl: “Nicolas put himself at the service of the team”
“The space for the attackers was extremely limited,” Eberl told reporters. “When you’re playing so close to the penalty area, there’s little room left. And yet, Nicolas was one of those players who had the patience to help turn the tide of today’s game.”
The Bayern sporting director went on to highlight Jackson’s discipline and team-first mentality, qualities that have impressed the German giants since his arrival.
“He put himself at the service of the team. That’s exactly what we need — patience, discipline, and team spirit.”
Chelsea keeping close eye on their loanee
Chelsea will no doubt be encouraged by Eberl’s remarks, as the 23-year-old continues his development in Germany. Jackson’s work rate and pressing ability have been standout traits since his move to Stamford Bridge in 2023, and Bayern’s staff appear to value those same qualities.
Although the goals have yet to flow in the Bundesliga, the forward’s all-round contribution and maturity suggest it’s only a matter of time before he starts delivering in front of goal.
Chelsea Context: Jackson’s Journey So Far
Nicolas Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal in June 2023 on an eight-year deal after an impressive season in La Liga. The Senegal international quickly became a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge for his energy, pace, and link-up play.
Last season, he scored 17 goals across all competitions for Chelsea and played a key role in Enzo Maresca’s attacking system. The club agreed to loan him to Bayern Munich this season to further his development and gain valuable experience in the Champions League knockout stages.
Chelsea remain confident that Jackson’s time in Germany will help sharpen his finishing and decision-making — two areas Maresca sees as crucial for his long-term future in West London.
