Raheem Sterling’s Clothing Brand 1692 Collapses After Heavy Financial Losses
Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling has seen his fashion venture come to an abrupt end after his 1692 clothing brand was officially struck off the register and dissolved by Companies House.
The company, 1692 Fashion Limited, was launched in 2021 during Sterling’s successful spell at Manchester City, in collaboration with British designer Samiyah Miah. Despite the high-profile launch, the business quickly ran into financial difficulties, losing nearly £750,000 in its first year and seeing total losses rise to £1.05 million by May 2023.
According to official filings, Sterling failed to submit the required accounts for the 2023–24 financial year, prompting a compulsory strike-off notice earlier this summer. Having not contested the decision, the company was formally dissolved, marking the end of Sterling’s short-lived fashion venture.
The collapse of 1692 adds to what has been a challenging period for the 30-year-old forward. Once a key player for club and country, Sterling has found himself frozen out of Chelsea’s first team under Enzo Maresca and endured an unsuccessful loan spell at Arsenal last season that generated little transfer interest.
Although his Chelsea contract runs until 2027, Sterling appears content to remain at the club unless a significant offer arises. He continues to train at Cobham, albeit separately from the first-team squad.
A recent social media post showing Sterling training alone late into the evening sparked widespread discussion, even prompting involvement from the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), which has since offered its support.
Speaking about Sterling’s situation, Enzo Maresca acknowledged the emotional toll such circumstances can take on players:
“I’ve been in Raheem’s situation before, and it’s not the best feeling because every player wants to train and play,” Maresca said. “The club is giving him and Axel [Disasi] the opportunity to work properly. It happens in every club when a player and club can’t find a solution — you provide the tools to train, but if you’re not in the squad, you’re not in the squad.”
As Sterling contemplates his next step both on and off the pitch, his once-promising fashion label has become another reminder of the off-field challenges that can accompany a football career at the top level.
